I started a job in August 2017 and realized that the culture was toxic/I could only learn so many technical skills from the position. After learning all I could, I started looking for a new job in March 2018 and finally landed a position a month ago (took 9 months). I started the job two weeks ago. The new job has a lot to offer in terms of skill development that I am very excited about. The workplace is relaxed and people are friendly. The only catch is that the commute is terrible, the industry is slightly niche, and there was no increase in salary (a lot lower than market value). I'm loving the job so far though. Huge improvement from my last place.
Then today I get a call back from a top/dream company I have been applying to for years for a position that I would love and that pays a lot more. I would like to pursue it even though I feel terrible. The same thing happened when I took my last job and I regret turning down the interview due to just taking a different offer.
I'm just not sure if I should tell the recruiter that I just started a new job or not. I would like to be honest but I'm getting advice from friends that it would be self sabotage to admit it. Would it come out anyway on a background check?
