How do I tell if I'm blackballed or just too old?

After losing a job of over 20+ years, I went back school at a local community college and took a course set up by a local company.

I got "A"s and "BS".

A note here: The course was compressed from a 1 or 2 year course down to a 6 month certificate course so the dropout rate was around 75%.

I'm also 56 1/2 years old and an older co-worker with less experience got the job without taking the course.

I got rejected. They stated I'm not what they're looking for.

My resume' is fantastic from having over 40 years of work experience.

I've been searching and interviewing for many months with no luck.

Am I too old?

Am I blackballed?
