Help please! My girlfriends work cancelled her approved Christmas vacation four days before her flight, telling her she has to make arrangements to stay or lose her job.

She works for one of the largest telecom companies in the US out of Mesa, AZ. Four months ago she had gone through the proper channels to get her vacation time approved four a few days trip to her parents. Plane tickets have been purchased as many weeks ago and her family has been making many plans which will all have to be cancelled. Is there anything we can do in this situation? Is this allowed in most large companies like this? According to her, while there was a union that could help smaller employees, but as this department is new and because she got a promotion, there aren’t any company union reps to reach out to. Other people have also been losing their positions in her department lately, that’s largely why she is being forced to stay.

Does anybody have any ideas of what to do? I’m really heartbroken for her over this, she’s devastated.
