Cried during interview when given an example of a situation that I could be in - high possibility of rejection?

Hi everyone, so yesterday I made a post regarding a job interview that I drove four hours to.

I think the interview was going okay and I had a feeling that we were nearing the last few questions, until this situation happened. The HR Manager gave an example of a situation that I could be in, which was a very sensitive subject to me and hit close to home. I don't want to mention what this example was, but I just started crying and had to take a moment to calm down.

The HR Manager was very professional about it, they gave me tissues and waited until I calmed down to continue the interview. I apologized for my emotional outbreak and replied that I would feel very anxious in that example of a situation. They said that they've seen many things happen in the workplace as the HR Manager, and told me not to be sorry for what I'm feeling. Does this mean that they will overlook my emotional outburst or will treat it as a special case? We then continued with the rest of the questions in the interview and then I got to ask questions to the HR Manager.

When I started crying, I felt like I immediately ruined my chance at the interview and also felt like I would have a high possibilty of rejection. I tried to keep myself together to the end and somehow managed to finish the interview. I don't know if I made a good or bad impression, but I'm really thinking that the interview went downhill.

I was told by the HR Manager that they'll call and notify all of the candiates next week regarding the job position, along with a potential job offer to one of them.

Should I even bother with a thank you email and also apologize again, if it's possible that I'll probably be rejected?

TL;DR - I cried during an interview when the HR Manager gave an example of a situation that I could be in and it was a sensitive subject to me. I am worried that I'll have a high possibility of rejection.
