I live in Utah and work in a county where a large portion of the population is Mormon. I am Mormon, but don't practice. My department consists of 4 other people all of whom are active mormons. We got a new Sr. Director at the beginning of the summer that we all report to. She is very difficult in general to work with, complains about everything and everyone, and is ill-suited to the job. (However, her boss, our VP, seems to like her) Anyway, lately she has started being very vocal about the Mormon religion to me, asks me which of my coworkers are Mormon, and makes snide remarks about the beliefs and culture in Utah.
She is obviously entitled to her opinion, but I believe she has crossed a line. It's not appropriate for work, and it's not relevant for her to know the religions of her direct reports.
I'm tempted to go to HR (I know everyone on my team already has, for various reasons), but I don't know what to expect. If I am the only one she is complaining about Mormons to, then it will be obvious I was the one who went to HR about it and I don't want to lose my job, because it's a great company.
What's the best way to proceed?
