*Regarding a Communications Specialist job!
For any helpful hiring managers out there, who have a moment of time!
I've mainly worked in accounting/bookkeeping/administrative, but I'm returning to college at the age of 28. I'm looking at a Liberal Studies degree, because my biggest priority is adaptability & the freedom to move around - whether that's between states or industries...
Here's the question: Would you hire someone with a Liberal Studies degree?
For anyone unfamiliar, this puts together 3 minors as 1 major: my focuses are Japanese, Interpersonal Communication & either Advertising/Marketing. I've been learning Japanese for years now, would consider myself a reasonably good communicator & would like the technical skills that come with advertising/marketing.
The idea is that this degree coupled WITH my current resume will take me to where I want to go... *
That being said: I have 8+ years of administrative, 5 years book-keeping, ~2 years of collections experience. I've done quite a bit of volunteering for a major Japanese non-profit where I live, and most of my jobs have been heavy in correspondence, or have exposed me to large groups of people in some way shape or form. Not one to shy away from large crowds either. I have a pretty strong resume, have always found interviews pretty enjoyable, don't have any issues networking... Also, I've been at my last place of employment for nearly 5 years, and would be able to produce references easily from professionals in at least 3 different industries.
Given all of this, would a Liberal Studies degree still catch your eye? Or even WITH my current resume, is a LB degree not strong enough to land a Communications Specialist job? I.e. Would you prefer a straight Communications, English or Journalism degree?
Would appreciate any insight! Thank you & Happy Holidays!
