Job posted by company & consulting firms, how to get directly hired?

I applied to a position 30 days ago and my application status is still ”Looking things over" in taleo. I see the exact job now being posted by consulting firms. I haven't been able to find a recruiting contact at the direct company to follow up. Should I connect with the consulting firm to get my foot in the door? I'd rather not be a contractor and work direct.
