Negotiated higher base salary but company offers signing bonus instead

Hello All,

Just recently I applied for an internal position at my current company. It is full time with benefits and everything. I’ve been at the company for about 1.5 years as a contractor with no benefits.

They offer me a base salary but I negotiated ~3.4% higher. Instead of going with that, they offer a signing bonus of the increase I asked for. If I leave the company before 3 years, I have to pay this signing bonus back lol.

The base salary that they offered is way more than I currently make but i know that I’d be happier with my initial negotiation. I don’t really need to have a sign in bonus as well. In addition, they’re having me work on more projects that the previous position holder did not do.

Can I make a counter offer to their counter? Will that turn them off since I already negotiated? Or should I just accept the offer?

Summary: -Company offers X salary/year -I negotiate X salary + ~3.4%/year -they counter with X salary + sign in bonus of my requested increase
