Is this normal in retail?

Hi, so I’m working in retail for the first time as a seasonal worker. The store has taken on a good amount of employees for the holidays, and were in fact training a couple people today (not sure why after Black Friday we’d still have people to train, but ok).

Every so often, I wind up alone on the floor for a good portion or all of my shift, which means I’m clearing out WJM fitting rooms, taking WJM calls/helping customers, getting returned items, and I help with register backups.

How common is this exactly, because it’s getting really frustrating to cover shifts like this and sometimes the supervisors (well, only one really, tbh) act like I’m incompetent when I miss a request/call while I’m just trying to make sure the fitting rooms don’t overflow.

I guess I’m partly venting, but I would also really like to know if it’s better most other places. Any advice to get me through these hellish shifts?
