I am 5 months into my first job post-college. I work directly under the CEO of a CPG company that imports our product from a bordering country, is distributed nationally, and works like lean startup-like environment/team (the 5 of us wear many hats). Because of this, work can sometimes feel disorganized and overwhelming. When I started, I was excited to add more organization to a historically disorganized company, however the historical inertia of the company/business/personnel has made it difficult for me to do so (also somewhat unrealistic to think a recent grad could alter the culture of 10+ y/o company - I think?). I commute ~1 hr to/from work to sit in a 2-person office for 8-9hrs of the day, communicating with my boss/CEO by phone for 1-2hrs/day and otherwise communicating via phone or email with others, hardly communicating with my much older, more settled (personally and professionally) co-worker. The office environment is hardly stimulating. Additionally, the starting salary was well-below what seemed fair for someone like myself who came with a wide range of skills and experiences and a degree from a Top 10 Public University. After negotiating, my boss gave me a 13% bump in starting salary and a 33% increase in my stock option. While these %s are quite generous, I am moving to SF, where living costs (rent, groceries, etc.) are high.
r/Jobs, how do you recommend I help bring in more organization, devise a better office environment, and negotiate a raise and/or raise and bonus structure?
My initial thoughts are: 1) bi-weekly meetings in-person w/ my boss, monthly project reports, 2) request work from home days (W, F), and 3) request a raise based on observable successes and propose a raise structure predicated on performance reviews and observable successes. I plan to present 1 & 2 this week or next, and 3 in 2019, after I've been at this company for 6 months and have been integral in launching a new product (2.5yrs of research, testing, development I'm directly responsible for pushing over the goal line).
