I had a great career in medical sales, made great money (close to 6 figures), but started hating the sales part and wanted to transition my career. I went and got a masters in healthcare management, but during that time, had a child and have since taken a few years off with two kids and several moves for my spouse’s career. I am starting to feel resentful that society screws us either way - if we work with young kids, we don’t care enough about our children, and if we stay at home even for 2 or 3 years, we are useless and might as well work part time in a store somewhere.
I have been looking for work for a while now (at least 3 months full time actively, but much longer on and off over the years). I paid a professional to rewrite my resume and my linked in profile, I have been trying to network in a new city (I just moved for the LAST time 6 months ago - I refuse to move again). The only thing I haven’t done is apply for medical sales jobs again, because I really don’t want to waste my masters or go back into sales, which I began to strongly dislike before I left, and most of my friends still in sales are still dealing with new jobs every few years, mergers, layoffs, crappy managers, etc.
I have applied to jobs full time, day and night and even on weekends for months. LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, etc. I have been trying to network, adding colleagues, neighbors and even sending messages on LI to try to build my network. I have applied for jobs that I am way overqualified for, even admin positions that only require a HS diploma, but prefer a BA. Nothing. Not a phone call or even more than a generic rejection email weeks or months later. I’ve taken online assessments for companies like Kaiser, nothing.
