Does the Subway Cash Register give you the amount total when it's time for you to give the customers their change?

Forgive my ignorance but I'm new to cash register and I don't want to make a fool out of myself. So for example, the sandwich is $11 and they give you $12 instead, does the Cash Register give you the amount you need to give back?
