Changed first name, so how do I relay this to my new employer and my old references?

I'm currently on the second stage hiring process for a really good job, but I'm worried they will get confused and frustrated when they call my references.

I went by my old name at my last job, and none of my references know that I changed my name. I had a very popular name for males and I changed it to a much more feminine name. Because of this I'm worried they might think I went through something gender-related that I'm not disclosing. In reality, my parents just gave me a very masculine name that I hated, even though I am a woman.

I know for a fact they are going to call all three of the references I plan to give them next week. How do I prepare for this situation?
