Boss wants weekly meetings after we’ve been meeting bi-weekly for months. Seems concerned about my project management approach. Should I worry?

My boss and I have been having bi-weekly meetings in which I update him on where I’m at regarding projects. We use an open-access project management tool that allows everyone to see where everyone is at concerning deadlines and projects. We’ve gotten along great and my six-month performance review was excellent (apparently I excel in my role).

Recently, however, I have been drowning in a deluge of projects, so much so that I often need to neglect deadlines in order to work on higher-priority tasks. My boss has taken notice of how overwhelmed I am and has asked me to let him know if it becomes unsustainable so we can find a means around it. Today, he recommended that we meet more frequently in order to do two things:

1.) Get me back on track as far as deadlines and project management go

2.) Get me to make better and more frequent use of our project management tool. I think the tool is cumbersome and prefer to use my own spreadsheets and notes, but it makes it difficult for my coworkers to see what I’m working on. I do my best to use it, but I’m inconsistent with it.

I, personally, am panicking and think that this is the first step toward me getting let go. My boss said that he sometimes does more frequent meetings with other coworkers when the workload gets to be too much, but I’m afraid that’s just a cover. I know how I can improve, and this isn’t a performance improvement plan in name, but I’m really worried that my imposter syndrome is starting to be vindicated.

Are my fears justified?
