Hi everyone! I’m curious as to what careers former retail managers have gotten into after leaving the field. Where did you end up? How did you go about the career change? What other new fields did you consider besides the one you landed on?
Personal background - I am a young (early/mid twenties) female and moderately successful (became a store manager in May) retail leader. Due to an opportunity to advance in my career I did not complete my bachelors degree (which was in an unrelated social field). I am wanting to leave retail as a whole for a variety of personal reasons, but the main driving factor is that my husband and I want to start our family, and I am seeking something with a more tolerable balance. My current role salaries me at 40/hrs a week but I put in 45-50 most weeks (especially during holidays). I am ready to be able to have the occasional holiday or weekend off so I can be fully present in my life.
Note - I am not seeking stories of those who found new ways to balance work and life in retail. I am so glad it’s working for you. I’m ready to hang up my hat. :)
Thanks for reading!
