Background: All my life I've done work as a freelancer in the field as software engineer, even thou I have no formal education. I didn't have many opportunities to work beyond tandem and on my last job I didn't do it that well. So, currently made a deal with a friend I have since High School and his girlfriend, the real master mind behind what I'm doing now, after they were dumped by their programmer for a job in Canada, they needed something done ASAP, and they were without source code from the previous collaborator, I accepted and started working from scratch. Yesterday my friend told me I had to look for other 6 developers to form a team since they got a contract with a government institution (here in Costa Rica), the guys will be under my command (!).
That was the background. So, in the mean time I turn rocks to find people with knowledge in technologies similar to mine in a working market dominated by Microsoft tech stacks (a complete nightmare if you ask me), I have worries about being a good boss, the people I'm working with had the blessing of growing, but boy, they grow really fast and I'm not even done with our current project.
I don't want to be a Michael Scott but neither a Denholm Reynholm, I want to be sure we as a team have at least the minimum of tools to do our job effectively and maintain our sanity and I'll be sure to not compromise on impossible deadlines and avoid bad planning, I don't have the experience but at least I have that perspective. So I ask in hopes to get nuggets of knowledge and keeping myself in check: What are the things you hate the most of your (current and/or pass) boss and why?
