I am a mechanical engineering student graduating in May. Just got offered a job from company A for $69,000 with a $2000 sign on bonus, 3 weeks of vacation, and is in a low cost of living location.
I also will be getting another offer by Friday from company B. This offer is $70,000 with an estimated $20,000 in bonuses and overtime. Also has 3 weeks of vacation & similar cost of living.
I would rather work for company A due to the scope of the position & the location.
Is it worth trying to get a higher salary from company A? If so, what would be a fair counter offer on my part?
Secondly, is asking for pre-banked vacation days a normal thing HR can grant? (i.e have 2 or 3 vacation days that I can use already in the bank on day one)
Thank you for the input!
