Does anybody here feel competitive at work? How do you stop doing that?

I've noticed lately that I tend to feel competitive at work, mostly stewing over people who are promoted but have weaker skills than I do. (Hard and soft) I'm always telling myself "keep your eyes on your own paper" because I drive myself crazy. I'm an experienced white-collar professional, in my mid-fifties. I should be more mature than this.

For example, I just started a new job with a new company. The place is staffing up for a large contract, and is adding business analysts, of which I am one. I started last Monday and was introduced to another new person who would be my manager. In conversations I learned that she started the weak before I did. She told me straight out that they picked her at random to be the BA manager and that she has no management experience. Likely they just asked the first BA to start work. She has two years less experience as a BA and several years less experience overall. She asked me to help her with a couple of tasks and I saw that she barely knows how to use MS Project and Visio. She turned both tasks back to the director half-completed as I watched. (She sent the emails before I could say wait.) So of course I'm then thinking... I'd be a better manager than this joker.

And then I have to keep telling myself to shut up and worry about my own work. Any other professionals here deal with this too?
