I do refrigeration appliance service work and we are scheduled to work 8-5. I have been working 12’s for the past 6 months (1yr total) and many times work as late as 10pm. I tell my “boss/supervisor” when I get work that this slotted for 15 minutes that it will take 3hrs they do nothing about it. I’m constantly calling customers to reschedule and get yelled at and have to apologize on behalf of the company daily. Whoever schedules the work orders doesn’t contact the technicians and we are overbooked constantly due to this. The company is so large that the scheduling is done nationally/online and no one has control over the schedule once it is transferred to technicians. There is nothing that can be done to fix that. On top of it I’d say half my calls are coming behind other technicians fixing their work. Sometimes all calls for the day was due to their work (sealed system) but the big boss won’t reprimand them. I have been here over a year and the company is getting progressively worse. My boss said I’d get a raise four months ago cause I have been a fast progressing employee but then we went into a pay raise freeze recently. I’ve applied to two dozen jobs since then and had no calls back. Not one damn one. I have an associates degree, five years supervisory experience, six years shipping/receiving/logistics, three years in facility management, one year as a training manager, and can fix just about anything mechanical/electrical. I am certified with explosives and refrigeration... clean driving record/criminal history and secret clearance. Amongst my peers I’ve been considered the SME and always put in charge of the team. What could I be doing wrong? Does good leadership exist in civilian life? I don’t want to work fast food jobs like I did ten years ago but I don’t know who else would hire me. This is literally a last effort to see what my options are. I have a LinkedIn, put my application on indeed, and tried contacting a VA career counselor who would not answer my calls. Any resume advice, career guidance, networking contacts, anything at all I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
