Hi everyone thanks for reading. This is gonna be rather long please bear with me.
So I am turning 30 soon. My 1-year contract as a paralegal at an international bank ended two months ago. Before that I worked a few months at an international law firm and 5 years at an NGO.
I know I am terrible at admin work. I am very good with drafting, reviewing and proofreading documents. I am also terrible at multitasking. But I can sit there and read very long T&Cs.
Anyway, my last job was highly admin work heavy. I was terrible at it. Filing and copying blah blah. New boss didn’t like me because he wanted me to be the one to remind the team of what to do and thought I was not organized enough to do that. He has now hired a recent law grad to replace me. The manager who hired me likes the fact that I know a lot about grammar but new boss does not seem to care. I know I am not the most organized person. But in my defense I was the only one working in a team of 4 for two months when others were on sick leave/annual or had quit.
With the international firm. My team was not needed when the partner of the team left. So it was fine.
Now, the reason why I became a paralegal is because I like helping people. But as the job was becoming more admin work heavy at the NGO, I left.
I don’t really like working at an international law firm or a bank. It’s all glamorous and I got to meet amazing people. But the work itself is stressful and more importantly I didn’t feel that I was helping anyone.
I do not have much savings. Still have student loans to pay. I have been looking for paralegal jobs and went to a few interviews. Looks like I am not getting any offer yet.
I have applied for HR (training) positions, research assistant, and paralegal positions only.
I really want to change to another field. I like arts and crafts. I like helping people (but I hate teaching). Anyone of you have any insight on what someone like me can do? Thanks in advance!!
