I am my boss's only employee as previously he was just doing everything himself but he hired me for assistance a few years ago.
I know most people advise only giving the standard two weeks as a courtesy and never more than that but I feel bad since its not like I work for a big company with an HR department or even coworkers that would be able to pick up the slack. Its just me and him.
Granted, my job makes me miserable and once I hand in my resignation I just want to be done as quickly as I can, but I feel aside from some minor things my boss has been pretty good to me and tried to help me grow as much as he can which I am appreciative of.
Would giving 3 weeks notice be a good idea in this case?
Also, I work remotely and correspond with him via phone frequently so I was going to send an email resignation including a thank you, my last say as well noting that I'm available for a phone call to discuss things. Is this an acceptable way to quit? Do I do it at the end of the work day or beginning?
I'd prefer to get all of my thoughts out on email first because I admit I am nervous to quit and have never quit a job before, but I know sometimes people tell their boss via phone first and then follow up with an email. Not sure what is most appropriate.
