Should I leave my job for one that pays only $10,000 more? Or should I hold out for an even more lucrative opportunity?
Hello, I'm currently a care advocate at a health insurance company. Graduated from college in 2020 with a Sociology degree. Had previous experience as a Crisis Clinician (mental health), social research (college), and community organizing.
I make $21 an hour, $31 unlimited OT that can be done at home, and performance-based (don't always meet) quarterly bonuses averaging around $1,800. I would estimate about $47,000 a year. However, I live in a major city so the cost of living results in me still not feeling as financially secure as I want to.
Constant turnover and the frequency of inbound calls has created a demoralizing work environment with poor workflow. Additionally, it's an urban work environment where we have to pay for daily parking. (averaging about $160 a month) Work schedules, while Monday - Friday, are volatile and I currently get off at 7:00. As a result, I'm currently applying for new positions. Jobs that pay $55,000 - $60,000, are an 8-5 Monday - Friday, better workflow, more robust benefits.
I recently had a promising interview for an Operations Associate job at an investment firm. $50,000 a year intially, eventual performance-contingent raise to $57,000. 15 minutes farther away than my current job but don't have to pay for parking. 8-5 Monday through Friday.
Is this enough of a pay increase over my current job? Should I take it? Or should I aim for something more? (closer to $60,000) Any job recommendations welcome!
