Is it possible to get hired for a municipality/city government in another state?

I'm looking to move to a new city in a state in a different part of the country but would like to land a job before I move. I applied with the city government for a job I look perfectly qualified for and on the application I mentioned the reason why I was applying (I said I was moving). It's a mid level admin/finance job.

I'm just curious as to my chances and if there is anything I can do to put myself ahead of the other candidates (who I presume are probably local mostly). There aren't any residency requirements to the application is valid.
