I've been working at this large corporate company (all of you would have heard of), for a year now next month. I don't really see a lot of opportunity and unless I make FTE (Full Time Employee), there's no where to go.
I've been slowly and casually applying to other places and I got a hit. It would be a great step up in my career, would come with a pay increase, and would be FTE with all the benefits. It would also be fully remote too!
Thing is, I enjoy what I do now and if I were to make FTE then it would be even better with all the above benefits applying. I know as a vendor I don't have a lot of say and unless I fill in a specific niche, getting FTE is difficult. So, I was thinking about during my one-year review, I would bring this up to my manager. Basically to say something along the lines of, "I like working here, I like the team and the org, but I want more. I want to be FTE. There's this other opportunity I've received that I would take, but would rather stay here if possible but if FTE isn't lined up for me due to budget, then I'd like to take the other opportunity."
Essentially, I want to squeeze them to get them to pull the trigger and it could swing either way.
The feedback I'd like to get is, how would you bring this up and what would you say? I want to be polite, political, and persistent without basically saying, "Make me FTE or I walk".
Thank you.
