Started training for a new position at work, and I've realized it is not right for me. Is it acceptable to ask for my old position back?

I was recently promoted to a new position and am two weeks into an eight week training, and this position is not for me. I'm not thrilled about going back to my old position, but at least it is something. If I ask for my old position, is it likely they'll just fire me?
