Interviewing over the phone for my first job on Monday. Do i disclose my cerebral palsy up front or wait until I get accepted to do so?
I just turned 16 recently and am in the US. I’m eager to find a first job, but i’m a bit nervous regarding my moderate Cerebral Palsy, which affects my right side and gives me a bit of a limp and I can only use left hand. It’s a fast food place, so i’m a bit worried that mentioning my disability will greatly increase my chances of getting rejected. I’d be a lot less worried if it was in person, because it’s noticeable enough to where it wouldn’t be a surprise if I showed up on my first day being a spastic half-cripple.
I was thinking of turning into a positive point, explaining that I have a disability however it only has gotten me used to overcoming obstacles and adapting to my physical needs easily, but i’m not sure that would help still. I’m just a bit conflicted, what would be the best course of action?
