Hi all,
I’ve been interviewing with a company and seems like I’ll get an offer after one last interview (the HR manager seemed very interested in me joining asap). There are some aspects of the job I’d like to negotiate with them and need some advice so I know if I’m asking too much (high unemployment rate in my country so it’s rare to negotiate job offers).
About the offer:
-
Entry-level sales position for overseas customers, the language they need is rare around here. The offer has been posted online for a few months and it seems they really need one more person as the team can’t handle all the workload.
-
Night shift. Monday to Sunday 40 hrs a week. 2 days off a week, normally together but sometimes “it won’t be possible”.
-
€21,600 before tax (around €17k after tax) + comissions. It’s a very liveable salary in my area and above average. But not that high for a night shift.
-
Contract is 3months + 3 months + 6 months and then indefinite. Also very common here and I hate it.
What I want to negotiate:
-
3 days off a week, same salary. And the guarantee of them being consecutive unless I agree not to (ie a colleague needs it). Also 1 free weekend guaranteed per month.
-
contract to be 6 months + 6 months and then indefinite. 1 month trial period (so they can’t extend it). I need to be sure that they won’t ditch me after the first 3 months if they happen to find a replacement that agrees to their initial offer.
This also applies to other companies I’m applying to since they all work overnight and offer similar conditions.
What do you think? Am I being too picky? I like the job but feel like the night shift is not being compensated enough considering how disruptive it is.
Thank you!
