Is it typical to chase down a recruiter?

I have had a few recruiters email me after submitting an application then they don't reply for 3-4 days unless I send 2-3 follow up emails, each one is about 24 hours apart.

Is this one of their 'tests'? I'm struggling to find something new right now and not sure if this is typical or if there's something wrong.
