I applied for a Ops position at a top-tier consulting firm (MBB) back in February and was first contacted by the firm's recruiter in early March. We scheduled a typical phone screen between the recruiter and I, however near the end of the conversation she informed me that the position that I had applied for had already been presented to another but if they accept the offer that there was another similar position in a different state and asked if I was interested. I said yes, I was, and with that she sent me into the next round to speak with someone who works directly out of that office. Mind you, this was all within a few days of each other.
I interviewed with the second person via. zoom and I was contacted just 3 days after that by the recruiter about how it went well and that she wanted to push me to the next set of interviews via. zoom - one of them being the direct hiring manager. The day after the interviews I sent the two that interviewed me a "thank you" email, as well as a "thank you" email to the recruiter that coordinated everything. No replies, but I also was not expecting any.
It is now reaching about two weeks after the final interviews and I have not heard anything since. Now, this firm does have a career portal and for the original position that was offered to someone else it does state "applicant not selected", but for this position it still shows as "applied".
One mistake I clearly made was I never asked or established expectations of when I would expect to hear back, so I am clueless in this regard. With that said, what should be my next steps to follow up and when would it be deemed appropriate to do so? I presume if I do send any follow up email, it should be directed to the recruiter and not the hiring manager, right?
Thank you!
