Hi all,
after months of job-searching, I've received an offer for company A. I'm not hugely keen on the role, it's entry level (while I have 4 years experience) and pay reflects this. However I am due to be unemployed in 2 weeks time so it’s at least something. A better role I interviewed for with company B asked me for 2nd interview today and have now asked for references, so maybe fingers crossed an offer might come in. Problem is, I verbally company A’s offer and so they sent a formal contract offer yesterday and will expect me to sign it by now. Now I think I have 2/3 options:
-
Sign contract anyway, and if the better role comes in from B I jump ship (hopefully before I commence the role at company A). This may “burn a bridge” but it protects me form being jobless in 2 weeks time. BUT There is 1 potential additional risk here (or am I crazy): company B know I have an offer from company A – is there any risk that if I accept A’s offer, company B find out? And that I would be punished for playing companies around with my false word, and for being dishonest to both parties? Probably a longshot (GDPR, etc), but has anyone heard of this happening?
-
Try to stall signing longer as I await the other offer, but it will get tricky as days tick by as company A will be wondering why I haven’t signed.
-
Tell company A I am hopeful of another offer and so do not want to sign it just yet (they may be offended, but is it worse to sign it and then pull out? Which crime is worse?)
Appreciate any advice,
