Hi all, I graduated with a Bachelor's in computational biology in 2020 and have been looking for jobs/studying up to try and get into data analytics ideally in healthcare. I'm not too sure what I want to do after that, but have been looking at getting into healthcare admin, or maybe pivot to something like ML engineer down the line.
It's almost been a year now and I'm getting scared that even my limited technical skills are wasting away and I'll become less and less competitive. One of my issues is I don't really know what to focus on to bolster the resume and prepare for technical interviews. I've been split between studying ML, practicing SQL, building some sort of software, doing Kaggle notebooks, or Leetcoding to study up on my Python.
I know getting a master's is also an option people have, but I have some qualms about that as well. My biggest problem is I screwed up and didn't foster a good relationship with professors at school. I was a transfer student so I had two years, but I wasn't focused on letter of recs because I didn't think I'd apply to graduate schools. I can maybe get one mediocre letter from a Postdoc at a lab that I did some basic work for during my last year of school. The other two I've thought about was reaching out to a random professor from my 2 years at university, and an Ochem professor from my community college.
This is my anonymized resume. My only experience really is the year of research I did. Is there even any hope with this experience and skillset? I feel like I need something more, but not sure how to reach the next step. Also apologies about the ezmechmarket website, my free GCP trial ran out and I'm looking at other ways to host.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I think I really just need a way to focus on one or two things to get my first job.
