I keep losing IT jobs. Clearly this career isn't for me. What else can I do without having to make huge financial concessions?
I've lost five out of six jobs for various reasons (laid off, performance, most recent was a personality clash with manager). They were all MSP IT jobs. This career path clearly isn't for me. I'm good at IT but I find it absolutely boring and unchallenging. I tried to get into infosec but even with certifications I keep getting passed on by employers for not having experience, even in entry level jobs.
I just lost my job again a week ago and now I'm trying to decide what to do. I have two employers who already want to talk to me, and I'm pretty sure if I just shotgun my resume I could find a new MSP job in a couple weeks, but the idea makes my skin crawl. I'd likely just get fired for whatever reason again. Unfortunately I'm not very imaginative so I can't figure out what else I could possibly do. Going back to school unfortunately isn't logistically possible at the moment, otherwise I would finish out my programming degree and do that. I've tried teaching myself programming, and I thought I knew a decent amount for someone who hasn't had formal education, but then I couldn't even get into a coding bootcamp (I can code games but I couldn't code algorithms in 15 minutes, which is what they wanted). I have other skills like customer service (end users always end up loving me and requesting me), and like I said I've coded some game stuff. And I am really good at the computers.
Does anyone have any advice? I currently make (made) 50k and I can't afford to make less. Sorry if I sound defeatist or anything. Like I said, I've lost five out of six jobs since I graduated six years ago so I'm feeling pretty bad and well, defeated.
