I recently applied for a different function within my department. The position was posted as a Sr. Level but was hoping the manager would hire me without the Sr. Level as an internal. Someone else internal got promotion into the position and I got great feedback. I asked the hiring manager what I could to gain the experience since there will be another opening in Q2. The hiring manager said I had the skills but she would be willing to work with me and provide feedback if I wanted to submit some assignments to her.
At the same time the women got promoted position is open on another team in the department. My hesitation is the new hiring manager with the person I’m closest with within the organization and I’m not sure if she would want the dynamics of our professional relationship to change. I had a long talk with her and I think I would prefer working with the clients with the manager that has an opening in Q2.
I am extremely torn because these positions do not come available often and one might not open up again for another 3-5 years. So do I apply now or do I hold off and take my chances? I really want to grow within the organization and this is the next logical step
