After a 2 year hiatus from a real job, tomorrow I start my first job that has actual career potential. I'm grateful, but also exceptionally nervous. Any advice would be appreciated.

To elaborate: I went from high school to the military to college. In the military I managed a group of 20 while directly supervising 3. In college, I just took on part-time gigs so that I could take more classes. Those gigs stopped last March when Covid hit. With the new free time, I ramped up my course load to finish 2 semesters early. From mid-Dec to early-Feb, I applied to 106 jobs. Got a few offers and ultimately took the best one.

So now, at 29, I will be starting a new job in an entirely new industry and be a direct supervisor to a few dozen people. Haven't managed people in 3.5 years, and even then, it was far fewer. However, my degree is tailored for management positions in my new industry. It's a big step up and it's the most money I have ever made. Hopefully that education along with my experience will be enough.

My job description lays out several key responsibilities and only one pertained to doing the job of those that I will supervise. All of the others were managerial and administrative functions, which I am comfortable with. I know that I won't be thrown into the deep end on day one. It's still daunting nonetheless.

Just to ease nerves, I've read up on the company and it's history. I've brushed up issues and trends in the industry. Reflected on the traits and actions of my past supervisors, both the good and bad ones. Thought back on my own failures and successes in management. I'm approaching tomorrow almost like an exam, as if the more I study, the better off I will be. I even ran a dry-run of how long will take me to get ready and drive there, just to ensure that I won't be late.

Anything else that I should be doing? Or suggestions to help relax? For those of you who've gotten a new supervisor from another industry, what were the issues? I expect to face some people that are irked at an outside-hire being brought in instead of an internal promotion.
