Turning down a job but keeping in contact with the hiring manager/director

Happy New Year!

I few weeks back, I received good news that both my top two jobs extended an offer, around the same time, after 1 yr of being unemployed.

Second runner up came first and I accepted. I actually like it. My first pick came afterwards. For this one, I thanked the director of company X for the opportunity. I also let the director know that although I was no longer available, I would love to keep in touch with her. She agreed!

Question: Those who had a similar experience of keeping in touch with the hiring officer, were you able to develop a deeper professional relationship with them? And did that eventually flourish to future opportunities from the connection?
