Before I get labelled as lazy, let me explain myself. I'm in my early twenties, studying a STEM degree at a prestigious college. I have always been an ambitious, passionate, career gal. I've grown up basically in poverty with my immigrant, single mother - who has only ever worked labour intensive, minimum wage jobs - a life that I desperately want to escape from.
I honestly don't care about being rich, I just want to escape poverty and live comfortably, and help my mom out. I have been applying to internships in banking and consulting because of the salary, and it's just the most straightforward path to follow as a STEM undergrad. But I keep reading up about the life of a banker/consultant - having to work until 10pm or on the weekends - and I know I wouldn't be able to live like that.
Essentially, I want a bullshit job. Or more specifically - I want one of those jobs where you're just doing random tasks and attending meetings and stuff. I never want to have to stay at work past 5pm or work over the weekends. I don't mind high pressure (having to present to clients or meet deadlines etc), but I just want a job that wouldn't take over my mind and mental wellbeing when I'm not in the office.
This might contradict how I describe myself - an ambitious, passionate, career gal - but I've come to realise that I care about my passions so much that I don't want to monetise them. I want to keep them for myself, to work on in my spare time. My actual career ambitions are long term goals (starting my own business etc), that I would want to work on once I'm financially stable. So I'd like a job that can let me live comfortably: a decent stable pay, time to work on my passions and 'side hustles', time to focus on myself and my social life, settle into adulthood and so on.
So what industry or job role should I focus on? How does one get a random job like that out of college?
