I graduated on the summer of 2019 with a B.S Kinesiology (health science). My initial career path was to become an occupational therapist. In order to beef up my application for OT school, I worked at a hospital as a scribe for 6 months and shadowed a local clinic 3 times a week for 3 months.
COVID news surfaced around January and I was laid off from my hospital late in that month, as they would say for “protective” reasons. So immediately after getting laid off, I was hired by a big video game company on a contract basis for a QA position and worked for them for 3 months (1 month at the office, 2 months remote due to COVID lockdown). During my time at this video game company (shall not named), I loved working with numbers, analytics, and working with team members from different departments.
COVID has put a halt or possible permanent end to my career path as an occupational therapist. Clinics are still very skeptical about volunteers shadowing their clinic. Who knows when this COVID thing is going to end.
I was unemployed from May to late October. During my unemployed period, I had a lot of thoughts about what i’m going to do, career-wise cause I knew for sure that any jobs that are in the health industry will not hire you unless you were licensed or certified. I had coworkers, upper management, and friends of mine say I have great analytical, critical thinking mind and great with computer and business software programs. Not to be arrogant, but I know i’m smart and love to solve challenges and great problems. With that said, I would love to work in a business field, like as a business analyst or business strategist, something along with that field.
As of now, I am temporary employed through a staffing agency and work for a consulting company that has a contract with the state I live in and work as a processor. I love the job I am in because again, numbers, graphs, analytics, crunching numbers, and solving business problems.
However, my contract ends in January and will looking for similar entry level jobs in the business field, but afraid that I will be unemployed again for months because of my limited work experience in that field. I also have internship experience for a startup company as a marketing and business analyst intern.
I am thinking about going back to school for mainly for a business degree or my backup plan, as a nurse.
What are my options?
