How do you handle a bad review?

I just started a new job a couple months ago, and it hasn't gone how I would've liked. What can I do to defend against a potential bad first review?

Most procedures at my workplace are complex, and similar enough to confuse with eachother. They've acknowledged some of their training resources are deficient and the workload can be erratic, but they still seem frustrated when I can't keep up.

The days are not evenly spaced, many times it seems you are doing fine, until everything piles up at the last minute with no one available to help. The work isn't put on pause for meetings or training, you're just expected to go faster when you get back.. New tasks that take a very short time when you know how to do them, take dramatically longer if you don't. My work area becomes a mess because I have no time to organize things, and any backlog flows into the next day, rinse and repeat.

They also lack actionable methods of improving things. Usually they'll say "just go faster, but not so fast you lose attention to detail" when I ask for advice or help. I find myself becoming piled up in backlogged work, and no matter how much I communicate it with my boss or coworkers, I still haven't received extra free time or help to get it caught up.

I feel like they'll try to pin a lot of this on me when my review comes around. I can see them saying "you need to work on your speed, attention to detail, organization, etc". I dont want to argue, I have no issue with actionable improvement and meaningful criticism, but I feel like in this case there's not something I can do. How should you address a potentially bad review?
