Started new job, they didnt tell me all my colleagues are not in the office. What to do?
On paper its the job I wanted, it has a lot of social contacts with people from all over the company. Before starting I saw myself in irl meetings with people from different departments etc and being that go to guy. Just like this kind of role has been in previous companies I've worked at.
When I started I quickly realized that majority of communication is via the computer/teams. None of my teammembers are at my office, the people that are there are people that I collaborate rarely with. I'm pretty social so I've made some friends, but its mostly an office I go to to work, not because I have crucial colleagues there. After switching to working from home during covid-times, it became more evident that this role is lonely....because its pretty much the same..
I woke up this week and simply couldnt work. No focus and bad memory. Feel burnt out. They werent clear with me that this would be the case with this role. I told my manager I felt sick and needed to stay home a couple of days, she doesnt know the real reason. I've read somewhere in the law in my country that they need to specify that the job will contain 'lonely work' before you start if it has it, but this one didnt.
It's a huge company, that is considered a great employer in my country. I dont want to be complicated but this situation is not really what I was asking for. Sure I communicate with my colleagues that are in other cities through teams, but it is not the same.. I want human interaction. :(
P.S I started working at the company one year ago before the pandemic hit.
