Does anyone prepare for an interview even though you have not gotten an invite yet?

I’ve been planning to practice or go through my potential interview list, remember some technical stuff like regulations etc. But then im like I don’t have anywhere to go.

But then i’ll get an invite for the very next day and i get panicked cause i have like 24 or less hours to practice.

Btw, is it normal for a company to send an invite one day before an interview in a state very far away from where you are living. When i got this kind of invite before, i got panicked not only for the interview but also how am i gonna get there on time.
