Sign on bonus pay back if company cut pay
In early November I was offered a job at a company I had interned for. This company offered me a sign on bonus of 2k when I joined, stating that if I had left before two years I would have to pay a percentage of that back depending on the length of time I stayed with the company. During the midst of Covid-19, the same company cut salaries by 25% for a time period over 3 months. The total losses to my salary was over the amount of the sign on bonus. If I am planing on leaving soon would I still have to pay this bonus back?
It's worth noting that this company has declared chapter 11 bankruptcy and is in the state of WI. They are about to be bought out by another company.
