I applied to a jr. Accounting position through a recruitment agency. The recruiter did a great job in preparing me for the interview and really liked me. I completed the first interview and was told by the recruiter that the interviewers really liked me and I was the leading candidate. I competed against one other candidate for the second round, the recruiter told me this second candidate had less experience then me but was “more confident”. The interviewer also worried that I was overqualified even though I only have 1 year of experience and the job posting asked for 2 years (I graduated uni in 2019). After the second round, the recruiter called me saying that the 2 women who interviewed loves me and the 2 men preferred the other candidate. They made a decision to completely restart the recruitment process. This seems like a bad business decision, if you are tied between 2 good candidates why wouldn’t you just do a test or third interview? I feel like the reasons they listed were invalid and feel like the men didn’t like me because I was a young woman. I felt very confident in both my interviews and rarely hesitated, I did pause to think instead of ramble.
I just want to know if anyone has experienced something like this? I’m a bit upset that I was rejected after being told I was a great fit and great candidate. I did notice that upper management at this company is mostly men... This was my first time interviewing through a recruitment company.
