Applied for a few jobs awhile ago. I’ve been working at one for a month now, and I really like it. Another one, which I really wouldn’t like, has offered me a job for a lot more money. What should I do?

So a couple months back I applied for three jobs, two were sales at a commercial plant nursery, and one was a technician in a horticultural lab.

Nursery Job 1

I got the job at this nursery, and currently work there. I love my job at the nursery, I don’t mind going to work at all and I enjoy how I spend the day. The other huge up side is that there’s a lot of upward mobility in general, but also because this industry has just exploded. I planned on making this my career and moving up. The downside? In this role, I make the bare minimum I need to survive. I’m living paycheck to paycheck for sure. The other downside is that the owner is a huge jerk.. Seriously as bad as it gets.

Nursery Job 2

This is another massive commercial nursery. I actually cold emailed them with my whole life story and work history. HR liked my email so much, they sent it to the owner. She loved it so much, she had me meet the manager who then told owner she had to meet me. She told me she absolutely wants to bring me on in sales next season, and it was just too late this season. She’s considered one of the nicest and chillest owners in the industry. So obviously the downside is that I don’t have an actual job yet.

Horticulture lab

I have some experience doing lab work with plants. I applied to be a tech, but they decided to go with someone else. I just got an email saying they opened up a similar position and want to hire me. The upside is that it would be a 75% salary increase. The downsides are that the upward mobility would require relocation, and the job would be boring. I see myself resenting going to work.

My questions

Should I take the job at the lab? I really need the money. I could do this job until working at nursery 2 (which would be way more money than nursery 1) but nursery 2 isn’t a sure thing.

I really like my current job, should I just go to the manager and tell him the truth, and that I need a raise to stay?

Lastly, if I’m worried I’m going to hate a job, is it even worth doing in the first place?
