Like many other people at this time, I'm unemployed and looking for a career switch to something in IT. I have very little experience in this field, besides online certifications and courses and so far applied to 2-300+ jobs without any response. A family friend of mine however owns a small company and is willing to create a fake internship or remote work experience and be put as my most recent job role. They are willing to be my main recommendation but they are not able to hire me since they do not need anyone else right now. I would say I'm an intern or doing remote work as a tester or web development or analytics. I haven't lied about anything else on my resume and I feel like it may be worse to lie about creating a fake degree or Bootcamp class or change my major to a major that would be better suited. My main question is how probable could I get caught if my family friend completely follows through? Can an employer ask for a W-2 or when/if they do an employment background check could this be found out that I wasn't paid or something? I'm not sure how employment background checks work-- do they call the number I provide or the company itself without a name or number I provide? If they give me a glowing recommendation could this potentially help me get a job? Also if I ever got a clearance in the future or do the job could this be found out? This fake work experience would hypothetically be used to fill in some of the gap during COVID and said that I'm currently working there now.
I know lying is bad, but this is all hypothetical and would just like to know if this can theoretically work so please just objective comments on this would be appreciated.
