Here is the story: I accidentally dropped my company laptop early last week. I felt so terrible and I have never done something so irresponsible. As soon as this happened I reached out to my direct boss and explained what happened. He said stuff happens and we will figure something out. The way my company is structured I have three bosses - each with more superiority. The boss directly above me who I report to daily said “stuff happens” and got me a replacement laptop the next day. The boss above him made jokes about it saying he needed a new laptop so he mind as well drop his too. I’m worried sick about the situation, especially because my boss that is most senior is out on vacation and is very strict. I worry that he is going to return and possibly fire me.
Given the situation, do you think this is a possibility or am I worrying to much. I’m new to the company with only 6 months of experience and I really love it here. My feedback has been positive and I would hate for an accident like this to ruin my chances of future success, especially given the current economy. Any advice on ways to address this would be helpful.
