Post interview sanity check. Longer story, seeking advice please.

I was laid off from my job last fall along with many others from my company. I’ve been looking for other jobs but most of the positions I’ve seen require me to either be in school or have 3 more years of experience minimum (I have 2 1/4).

In December, I interviewed for a contract position with a company but ultimately was passed because I didn’t ha e familiarity with the tools. About a month ago I was contacted from one of the managers I interviewed with saying they were going to start hiring a lot more for full time positions and he thought I was a good fit. We quickly scheduled an interview with a couple teams taking about a half day total.

All the interviews I think went really well. All the interviewers said really positive things and maybe I was wanting to read into it, but they dropped in things that sounded like they expected me to get an offer, like in my last one of the day he said I should hear back in about a week. I followed up with the HR contact that scheduled the interviews and asked them to pass on my thanks. He replied that it sounded good and if there are any updates from the team he will let me know.

I haven’t heard anything since the interview two weeks ago and I’ve already followed up once just asking if there was any status update and reiterating my interest but received no response. I know there can be many factors into the delay of a response both positive and negative, but I’m trying not to lose hope. It felt like a sure deal, but since it’s been two weeks with no response I’m thinking I’ll get a rejection email if anything at all.

How should I interpret this? Am I possibly still in the running, particularly if they are doing many hires? Should I follow up once more next week as it nears three weeks since the interview?
