My (I'm a contractor) boss is releasing 16 permanent roles. I qualify for four of them. But I may not get the one I like because I am lacking in project management experience? I've been encouraged to apply but I know this is a disadvantage on my part. Comments please. Would appreciate your insights.

I've learnt very quickly and internal stakeholders have told me in my short time here that I am an amazing fit for the organisation. They've reported to my manager I'm great and said they'd be my referee for I were to apply for permanent.

Well I would really love the role as theyre implementing a state wide project and need 16FTEs.

My manager spoke to me on Friday saying to apply for both roles, she hinted that I lacked project management experience that was for the higher role but regardless broke it down explaining to me what it involved salary etc. She said I could build my project management experience through applying for the other role - which is still great but not exactly what I wanted.

The higher role has skills and challenges that I want to apply and go through. It is what I wanted.

At the same time I understand my project management skills are very minor and only from an admin.

But I still know and believe that I am capable for the higher role.
