Was blue collar for a bit until this job, which is my first desk job (and first tech job no less!), been here for almost 3 years.
First of all, I flipping love what I do here. Great co-workers. Okay commute. Great work-life balance. But the pay sucks bull testicles. Largely due to being in the public sector.
I've asked for a better title (read, better pay) since January. I told him very specifically, in several occasions, that I am already looking for a new position and that if and when that opportunity arises I will be leaving. I told him again in the beginning of July.
I finally received a job offer last Tuesday and the new job starts on Aug 3. The new job is LITERALLY double (2.2x) my current annual salary (not quite six figure, yet, but getting closer). The new company is voted the top best 100 midsize employers by Forbes and top 100 best places to work for in Fortune. I already started the on-boarding process and it's...incredible. I don't even know what an on-boarding process is until now.
Last Thursday I told him here's my 1 week notice. Which, I admit, is not ideal. Boss-man seems to be surprised that I'm ACTUALLY leaving. Like bro I told you as early as this January and as recently as early July. He actually said I was being "unprofessional". I basically gave him notice SINCE January. For him to be shocked and surprised is rather disingenuous. Me leaving should not a surprise at all.
TLDR; gave boss-man plenty of notice about my intentions of leaving, formally gave my 1 week notice, and boss is not happy.
