As someone who's moved around a bit in the US corporate job market, its easy to identify hiring trends, hot markets, and so on. This leads me to throw up a red flag about the labor statistics reported for June. I have no political stance on the matter, but as of July 2nd I've witnessed the drop in hiring from April until now first hand, and have no first hand accounts of position fills.
I'm a young veteran with a masters degree specializing in cloud computing. I have various certifications and qualifications to not only to administer, but professionally instruct enterprise administrators on both infrastructure and end-user services. I have experience in both the private and public sector, both large and small business. I've worked with notable companies like Microsoft, NetApp, AWS, VEEAM, and so on. Job opportunities were plentiful and genuine for at least this past 12 months up until March. I regularly maintained full time + part time employment. That abruptly stopped in May, and I'm glad I have savings and liquidity built up to support the family.
Since then, its been a ghost town on the career front. Genuine job channels have gone silent. Regular job boards have nothing but spam and boilerplate postings. I'm literally the guy who helps businesses migrate to the cloud and build secure networks that allow a fully remote employee base. I have gotten not one email or call back in 4 weeks. I've been consulting freelance for associates during this mess, and witnessed absolutely horrific WFH technology practices and network vulnerabilities. There's work to be done, but why doesn't it seem like anyone is actually hiring?
I have no political stance here, just observations on current trends. Some people are just looking for positivity right now. Others are looking for answers. Some just want something to be mad at. Regardless, were all eating this soup sandwich together. Just stay in the fight, everyone. This too shall pass.
