Hi, I’m 19 and I have no idea how to make my resume look appealing. I apply to lots of retail jobs and restaurant jobs, but don’t hear back. I know it’s because of my resume because even I think my resume is pretty crappy. Here’s a little bit about me for context
1) all of my work experience has been different summer internships in different industries (I’ve had 4 internships over the course of 5 years). Two retail, one public relations, and one maintenance. 2) im a sophomore in college/university but have not been involved on campus at all. As cringe as this may sound my prime (grades, character values, extracurriculars) was in high school but I’ve gotten advice to completely remove high school off of my resume
The advice I was given to correct my issue (a rather boring, lackluster, and empty resume) is to add “skills” section, but I’m a little dumbfounded by this for a few reasons.
First, I feel like the skills section on a resume is hearsay. Who can confirm that my skill is “analytical” aside from myself?
Second, I personally feel like I have no skills that would make me appealing to an employer. I can’t say I’m detail oriented or analytical because I personally feel like those things are untrue about me. What if I put analytical and a former boss disagrees? That would suck.
I want advice on what I should do to make my resume more appealing for a retail job. Should I link the resume so that you guys can understand what I mean? Let me know and thanks for the help.
